F1 Points Swing Calculator
How much can one driver gain on a championship rival in a Grand Prix or Sprint? Compare Driver A and Driver B and see how their points gap changes. This is an illustrative calculator, not a live race result or championship prediction.
Compare two drivers
Select “No Sprint / outside points” for both drivers on a normal race weekend. The same scoring position cannot be assigned to both drivers in the same session; outside-points outcomes may be shared. Full points only; shortened races, penalties and other contenders are not modelled.
Driver A 25 points − Driver B 18 points = +7
Driver A remains 5 points behind Driver B.
Starting deficit 12 − points gained 7 = 5 behind.
How the points swing works
Formula 1 awards 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 points to the top ten finishers in a full-points Grand Prix. In a Sprint, the top eight score 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 points. There is no fastest-lap bonus point in 2026.
Points swing = (A's Grand Prix + Sprint points) − (B's Grand Prix + Sprint points). Subtract that swing from A's starting deficit to find the new gap. A negative deficit means A moves ahead of B. This compares only these two drivers, not their position among all championship contenders.
Example: A wins, B finishes second
A scores 25, B scores 18, so A gains seven points. If A started 12 behind, A ends five points behind.
Example: A wins both sessions on a Sprint weekend
If B finishes second in both, A scores 33, B scores 25, and A gains eight points.
What if both drivers end level on points?
A tie in this two-driver comparison is not a title decision. Official FIA countback rules and other contenders still matter.
